Dr. Kyle Royalty is a native of Georgia, born and raised in Marietta. He attended Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama where he graduated magna cum laude from the honors college with a major in chemistry and minor in Spanish. He also pitched for the collegiate baseball team all four years. His first time living in Athens was during medical school, where he earned his doctorate in medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in Athens (then affiliated with Augusta University). He was nominated into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society for academic achievement as well as the Gold Humanism Honor Society for compassionate care. He then completed an internship in internal medicine in Augusta, GA followed by a three-year ophthalmology residency at the Dean McGee Eye Institute (affiliated with Oklahoma University) in Oklahoma City. He is excited to practice comprehensive ophthalmology, taking care of a broad range of pathology from cataracts, glaucoma, diseases of the cornea, pediatric and adult strabismus, and more. During college Dr. Royalty met his wife Hannah, and they now have a daughter. He is excited to be back in Athens and looks forward to caring for this community.
